Notable Features:
Norman Part of a 12C window in N Transept.
13C Arcades and E Arch of Central Crossing.
Dec S & N & W arches of Central Crossing.
Dec Wall Painting. On NW pier of tower, showing a Bishop.
Perp S Aisle, S Porch, W front.
†1617Monument - Richard Woodcocke. He was Vicar in the early 17C. His bust looks down on the altar. The monument is similar to Shakespeare's at Stratford-on-Avon.
†1623Monument - John Cavendish. He was the son of the Earl of Devonshire, his monument is a sarcophagus.
†1726Monument - Lady Mary Whichcote. Monument has a tall pyramid.
†1759Hatchment - Anne Lowndes. [hatchment 1] The daughter of Charles Shales.
†1780Hatchment - Newe Barwick. [hatchment 8] (possibly Newe Barwick).
†1784Hatchment - Coulson Skottowe. [hatchment 9]
†1784Hatchment - Ann Skottowe. [hatchment 10] The widow of Coulson Skottowe (see hatchment 9).
†1800Monument - Nicholas Skottowe. Monument shows a mourning woman at a sarcophagus. Sculptor was John Bacon, Junior.
†1808Hatchment - William Lowndes. [hatchment 2].
†1831Hatchment - William Lowndes. [hatchment 3].
†1848Hatchment - Harriett Wilson. [hatchment 4] She was the widow of William Lowndes [see hatchment 3].
†1836Hatchment - Mary Harriet. [hatchment 5] She married William Lowndes (see hatchment 6).
1886-9 Restoration. Architect was Sir George Gilbert Scott.
†1864Hatchment - William Lowndes. [hatchment 6] He married Mary Harriett (see hatchment 5) and then Martha Sutton.
†1905Hatchment - William Lowndes . [hatchment 7] (probably William Lowndes).
1970 Wall Painting. Over the chancel Arch. 10 scenes representing Holy Week. They are actually painted on canvas. Artist was John Ward.
