Windows by James Tennant Lyon - Maker

James Tennent Lyon was born in 1837, the son of the Episcopal Minister of St Andrews, Fife, Scotland. The young James moved to London to work as a stained glass artist, setting up his own workshop at 40 Fitzroy Square. In 1866, at the age of 29, he produced his only window known to be in Buckinghamshire, at Bradenham. The Bucks Herald then reported "the young man's talent bids fair to bring his name very speedily into well-deserved repute". In 1868, Arthur Louis Moore joined Lyon as an apprentice, and just three years later, Moore joined forces with Gibbs, to found the company Gibbs and Moore glassmakers. Lyon married Mary Collier in 1869 and they had three children. It is not easy to find other examples of James Tennent Lyon's work, however his career was sadly cut short because he died in Dover in 1872 at the age of 35
