Dame Frances Dove More...

Frances Dove (27 June 1847-21 June 1942) was first headmistress of Wycombe Abbey School and a distinguished local councillor, first elected to High Wycombe Borough Council in 1907. When refused the mayoralty simply because she was a woman, she had this window installed depicting noteworthy British women so that future mayors at Civic services 'could be reminded of female virtues'. Beneath the window is the Mayor's chair used on Civic occasions.
