Francis Philip Barraud (1824-1901) born at Camberwell, London on 19 July 1824, son of William Francis Barraud and his wife Sophia. One of several of a family ofartists which include brother Charles Decimus Barraud (1822-1897), others were Allan Barraud (1849-1913) and Charles James Barraud (1843-1894). Francis visited New Zealand on the 'Northfleet' in 1842 and some of his watercolours were exhibited with the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts 1889-1897. He worked almost exclusively in watercolour, but became involved with stained glass, joining Nathaniel Wood Lavers to form the Lavers & Barraud partnership in 1858.
