Windows by Percy Bacon - Maker

The firm of Percy Bacon & Brothers was begun by painter and sculptor Percy Charles Haydon Bacon in 1892 and it continued to make stained glass windows until his death in 1935, though output after 1930 was in significant decline. Percy was joined in the business by his brothers Archibald and Herbert, though it seems Herbert may not have been active in the firm much after 1898. Their stained glass windows are found in the UK and across the world, including Australia, Canada, and the US. Percy Bacon and Brothers also executed the "designs" of others, most notably George Fellowes-Prynne and Ernest Geldart. In the case of Prynne the "design" may have just been an outline specification or the theme of the window and it was left to Bacon to create the artwork. There is a good example of this type of collaboration on the Cornish Stained Glass website entry for All Hallows, Kea. The firm also executed a good deal of church furnishings such as reredos (including their decoration), communion rails (wooden and wrought iron as at Sidup St John - now removed), screens and general wall decoration. Some of the best examples of their wall decorations are at Christ Church, Waterfall Road, Enfield. (Thanks to Alan Spencer)
